lake I want to only register for four place settings of fine china- why is this considered tacky?

I asked the exactly same question. Whoever thinks it's tacky is weird, I think. People have different needs and you can't get someone a gift that you like. You get them something that they need and want. So if people think it's tacky, it's their problem. Although I would include some gift cards for those who can not afford to buy you the fine china.there
