The concept of Nationalism is very important to what lead to WWI. Germany had just untied as a nation and wanted to become a great power like Britain. Germany was building a navy, even though it had no sea to defend. It was greatly expanding it military. Europe was basically a disaster waiting to happen at that time. Many nations were quarreling with each, forming alliance and breaking their alliances. Franz Ferdinand, the Austrian heir to the thrown was shot and killed by a Serbian radical. The nations were all were trying to be the most powerful and greatest, all believing their own nation superior to their neighbors.
